Research

When I was working for a Head Start program, I served on an Early Childhood board for a local Community College. While serving on the board, we were given the task to research and see what things child care providers thought the students who completed student teaching in their programs needed to learn. Members of the board interviewed child care providers, students, and teachers as well as conducted surveys. We were able to provide the head of the Early Childhood Education department with excellent feedback that was not only helpful for the students, but for the teachers as well. One thing we found out was that with Head Start being one of the nation’s leading programs for infants and children, students did not have a lot of knowledge about the program and the services that it provides.

  1. Thank you for sharing your own personal experience. When you all found out that the students did not have a lot of knowledge about the program and the services that it provides, were their any changes that you made or suggested to the local Community College? As that past experience been helpful to you in this class?

  2. This was a great idea. Thanks for sharing. I have found that what students learn in school compared to real world application can sometimes clash. It is good to get feedback from industry professionals, instructors and students alike to make sure that everyone is on the same page.
